Winter should be renamed the cold & flu season. It seems we always spend January fighting off some bug or another. Whether it's the sniffles, a cough, or some sort of flu thing, someone is always down for the count around here.
I made this up before Christmas thinking that someday it might come in handy, better to have it made up now. Someday was only a week later when my youngest came done with one of those chunky sounding coughs. You know what I'm talking about, right? All congested and constantly sounding like junk will coming flying out your mouth when you dare cough.
Beyond the fact that it smells fantastic, this stuff really works! Within just a few days his cough was gone and he was back to normal. The last couple winters the same cough lasted weeks! It was such a blessing to see him back to normal so quickly.
You can use this like you would any other vapor rub – on your feet and chest!
DIY All Natural Vapor Rub
3 Tablespoons Coconut Oil (Where to buy)
2 Tablespoons Shea Butter (Where to buy)
1 Tablespoon Beeswax (Where to buy)
10 Drops of Eucalyptus Oil (Where to buy Oils)
10 Drops of Peppermint Oil
5 Drops Lemon
Melt the Coconut Oil, Shay Butter, and Beeswax completely in a double boiler on medium heat. This will take a few minutes.
Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes.
Add in Essential Oils and pour into desired jars (glass is best).
Let cool for 2 hours or overnight.
Use this Vapor Rub on the chest, back, or apply it to feet with socks! You could even put it under your nose for added relief from a drippy nose and congestion.
This is a great recipe for kids because it is always smart to use a carrier oil when applying essential oils on children. Just apply this recipe to the bottom of their feet and then put on socks! It’s a simple and easy way to use Essential Oils on your children. As with any oil, please use caution when applying to younger children.
I used Young Living Essential Oils when I made this recipe! I love the Seed to Seal Guarantee and the process behind distilling their oils. You know that you are getting Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils.

I love cooking with real food, knitting with good yarn, sleeping in (when the kids let me), staying up late to finish that last chapter, DIY projects, and most of all enjoying life.
