I am in love with these homemade deodorizing disks! Who knew that 3 simple ingredients could kick odor butt?
Perfect for the garbage can, refrigerator, musty closets, and anywhere else you can think of that needs freshening up.
Homemade DIY Deodorizing Disks
2 cups baking soda
1/2 - 3/4 cups water
Essential Oils of your choice. (Where to buy) My favorites for these are Purification and Citrus Fresh.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a medium-sized bowl, combine baking soda and water and mix into a paste. You are looking for that wet sand feel. Wet enough, but not soupy.
Spoon paste evenly into a silicone baking pan. I love this one!
Place the silicone pan onto a baking sheet for easier handling when transporting to and from the oven.
Place pan in oven, and bake for 20 minutes.
Remove from oven and let cool completely.
Once cool, remove the disks from the pan. You may find that the disks still are not completely dry at this point. That's okay. Leave them out on the counter to finish drying, usually overnight.
At this point you have a choice, scent the disks now or store them for later use and scent when ready. I like to store mine in an airtight jar and scent with whatever scent when I am ready to use them. This way I feel I'm not wasting oil when they lose their scent because I waited too long to use them.
You can scent the disks by applying one drop of your chosen oil to the top of them.
To use: Add one or two deodorizing disk to the bottom of your garbage cans and other places you would like to stink less.
Each disk’s scent should last 2-4 weeks. When the smell fades, simply crumble the disk in your washing machine with your next load of laundry. (Baking soda is great for removing stains and odors in the laundry – an extra bonus for making these disks!)
